Biggar, Lanarkshire

Biggar is a town in Lanarkshire, in the Southern Uplands near the River Clyde. In the 12th century, King David I gave the lands of Biggar to Baldwin, a Fleming knight, who built a motte-and-bailey castle, which can be seen north-west of the High Street. The 14th century Boghall Castle is now only represented by a few mounds. The town is within the council area of South Lanarkshire.
