Beverley, Yorkshire
Beverley is ancient market town in Yorkshire, in the East Riding. It is famous for Beverley Minster and Beverley racecourse. St Mary's, at the other end of town from the cathedral-like Minster, is 'one of the most beautiful (and famous) parish churches of England' (Pevsner). Close by is the imposing brick-built North Bar (1409), still the official exit from the town. Two large central open spaces – Wednesday Market and Saturday Market – lend character to a place full of historic interest. It lies within the council area of East Riding of Yorkshire.
