Berth Hill, Staffordshire
Berth Hill is a multivallate Iron Age hillfort, situated on the hill from which it takes its name near Maer, Staffordshire. The defensive earthworks enclose a central area of approximately 10 acres and include an inner rampart and ditch, beyond which, in some sections, is a second rampart. The hillfort was the basis of a 19th-century ornamental garden, features of which remain, including a small grotto, carved with the date 1824. The site is within the council area of Newcastle-under-Lyme (Staffordshire).
