Belper, Derbyshire
Belper is a historic market town on the River Derwent in Derbyshire. A centre of nail-making since the Middle Ages, Belper became one of the world's first mill towns when industrialist Jedediah Strutt built the North Mill and east Mill in 1794. Belper Unitarian Church was built in 1788. St Peter's Church, designed by Matthew Haberson, was consecrated in 1824. The Ritz Cinema opened in 1919, the building dating from 1882. The town is within the council area of Amber Valley (Derbyshire).
