Beechmount, Antrim

Beechmount is an urban area in south-west Belfast, County Antrim. It is within the townlands of Ballymurphy and Town Parks, in the civil parish of Shankill. The area lies around the middle section of the Falls Road and takes its name from Beechmount House (1777). The area was developed from the late 19th century. It is known for its street murals depicting aspects of the republican cause. St Mary's University College opened in 1900 as St Mary’s Training College. Beechmount is within the council area of Belfast.
