Beauchief, Derbyshire

Beauchief is a hamlet in Derbyshire. Beauchief Abbey was founded in 1183 and dissolved in 1537. The western tower remains, attached to a 17th-century chapel. The estate eventually became the property of Edward Pegge who built Beauchief Hall in 1671 with stone from the ruined abbey. The hamlet comprises the hall and it surrounding buildings and a cluster of building around the former abbey site, including Beauchief Abbey House. Much of the parkland is now a golf course. The hamlet is within the council area of Sheffield.
