Basildon, Essex

Basildon is a town in Essex. Basildon was designated as a new town in 1948 and developed from around 1950. The existing villages of Pitsea, Laindon, Basildon and Vange were included in the new town developments. The town was named after the civil parish and village of Basildon which lay in the centre of the new town area. Basildon's parish church, Holy Cross, dates from the 14th century. Bolelers was an ancient manor house of which only the moat survives. Basildon is within the council area of Basildon (Essex).
