Barrow Hill, Hertfordshire
Barrow Hill is a Norman motte castle, situated on the eponymous hill near Widford, Hertfordshire. It comprises a large conical mound which measures 140ft in diameter and about 22ft in height, along with a 10ft wide defensive ditch from which material was quarried during the construction of the mound. The names reflects the earlier view that the monument is a barrow. It is within the council area of East Hertfordshire (Hertfordshire).
