Barnes Castle, East Lothian
Barnes Castle is a 16th-century castle near Athelstaneford, East Lothian. An unfinished castle, with a number of defensive banks, it was started by Sir John Seton of Barnes (died 1594), James VI's Treasurer of the Household. It is thought to have been intended as a fortified Monastic grange, but construction apparently ceased on Sir John's death. It is within the council area of East Lothian.
