Barneshurst is a suburban village in Kent. The Bexleyhill loop line was opened in 1881. When Barnehurst station, named after local landowner Colonel Barne, opened in 1895 it was in the open countryside. The Barnehurst estate was built from 1926 with further suburban development following. Barnehurst is now contiguous with Bexleyheath to its south-west. The Red Barn public house opened in 1936 and developed a reputation as a venue for traditional jazz in the 1940s. The village is within the council area of Bexley.
