Ballysillan, Antrim

Ballysillan is a northern suburb of Belfast, County Antrim. It lies within the townlands of Ballysillan Lower and Old Park, in the civil parish of Shankill. Into the early 20th century, the townlands of Ballysillan Upper, Ballysillan Lower and Old Park remained largely rural. Ballysillan House dates from the late 18th century. Ballysillan Presbyterian Meeting House was first built in 1839, replaced by larger building in 1889. St Mark's Church (C of I), designed by Charles Lanyon in the Gothic Revival style, was consecrated in 1856. The area saw significant development from the 1930s, with most of Ballysilan Lower and Old Park townlands being fully developed by the 1970s. The Ballysillan area is within the council area of Belfast.
