Ballynafeigh, Down
Ballynafeigh is a suburban area in east Belfast, County Down. It is within the townland of Ballynafoy, in the civil parish of Knockbreda. The Ormeau Demesne, once the estate of the Chichester family, was opened to the public in 1871 as Ormeau Park. That part of Ballynafoy townland to the south of the park was gradually developed from the mid 19th century. This area is usually known as Ballynafeigh, a variant of the townland name Ballynafoy. Ballynafeigh Orange Hall dates from 1887. Ballynafeigh Methodist Church (1899) is a grand American Romanesque building. The Cooke Centenary Church (1889) was build to commemorate the famous Presbyterian minister Dr. Henry Cooke (d. 1868) on the centenary of his birth. St Jude's Church (C of I) opened in 1873. The Holy Rosary Church (RC) opened in 1898 but closed in 1980, the congregation moving to the nearby Good Shepherd Church (1920), part of the former convent of the Good Shepherd Sisters. The area is within the council area of Belfast.
