Ballymoney, Antrim
Ballymoney is a market town, lying on the Ballymoney River in County Antrim. Originally lying within the townlands of Town Parks and Glebe, it has expanded into the townlands of Ballycormick, Newhill, Semicock, Millquarter, Carnany Lower, Bravallen and Drumnamallaght. A settlement is believed to predate the Plantation, but Ballymoney was established as a market down by landowner Sir Randal MacDonnell with settlers from lowland Scotland. A tower of a church built in 1637 by Sir Randal is the town's oldest surviving structure. The original Ballymoney Town Hall, now the Masonic Hall, was completed in 1775. Ballymoney Town Hall (1866) is in the Italianate style. The town has seen large-scale expansion and population growth since the 1970s, and has maintained a substantial manufacturing base. The town is within the council area of Causeway Coast and Glens.
