Ballyhalbert, Down
Ballyhalbert is a village, lying on the east coast of the Ards Peninsula in County Down. It is within the townland of Ballyhalbert, in the civil parish of St Andrews. The village is believed to date from Anglo-Norman times. Ballyherbert Old Graveyard includes the ruins of an Anglo-Norman church, which fell into ruin in the late 17th century. RAF Ballyherbert (1941-1960) played an important role protecting Belfast and the eastern half of Northern Ireland during the Second World War. The former base subsequently became a gated community and caravan park. The village is within the council area of Ards and North Down.
