Ballycolman, Tyrone
Ballycolman is a former hamlet that now forms a southern suburb of Strabane, lying south and west of the River Mourne in County Tyrone. It lies within the townland of Ballycolman, in the civil parish of Urney. The far north of Ballycolman townland has long formed part of the Bridge End part of Strabane. The rest of the townland remained rural until the mid 20th century. The hamlet lay on what is now the southern stretch of Ballycolman Road. The first St Mary's Church (RC) was built on the Melmount Road nearby around 1840. The present church opened across the road in 1971. The townland saw large-scale suburban development from the 1960s onwards. The area is within the council area of Derry City and Strabane.
