Axbridge is a town in Somerset. It lies on the River Ave, near the southern edge of the Mendips. It was granted a royal charter in 1202. It grew in the Tudor period as a centre for cloth manufacture. The Church of St John the Baptist dates from the 13th century. The town is within the council area of Somerset.
