Ashton Upon Mersey, Cheshire

Ashton Upon Mersey is a former village that is now usually considered a part of Sale, Cheshire. It lies on the south bank of the River Mersey. The township of Ashton upon Mersey is first mentioned in 1260. For local government purposes, from 1894-1930 it formed the basis of Ashton upon Mersey urban district, then becoming part of Sale urban district, later Sale municipal borough. It is within the council area of Trafford.
