Ardglass, Down

Ardglass is a coastal fishing village, lying on the east coast of the Lecale peninsula in County Down. It is within the townland of Ardglass, in the civil parish of Ardglass. Ardglass had grown to be a prosperous port by the 15th century. Kings Castle dates from the 12th century, Jordan's Castle and Cowd Castle from the 15th century. Ardglass Castle was originally a row of 15th century warehouses, converted into a castellated house in the late 18th century. William Ogilvie had the harbour constructed from 1812. The village is within the council area of Newry, Mourne and Down.
