Ardboe Abbey, Tyrone

Ardboe Abbey is the site of a former monastery, located on an elevated site overlooking Lough Neagh in the civil parish of Ardboe, County Tyrone. The monastery was reputedly founded in 590 by St Colman and destroyed by fire in the 12th century. Aside from Ardboe Cross, the only visible remains of the monastery are a small ruined rectangular building, 38'6" x 24ft, of rough stones. The date of this is uncertain. The monument is in the care of the Department for Communities. The monument is within the council area of Mid Ulster.
