Ancoats, Lancashire
Ancoats is an urban area in Manchester, Lancashire. It lies to the north-east of the city centre. From the late 18th century onwards, Ancoats became a thriving industrial district. It has numerous historic buildings including the futuristic Daily Express Building (1939) and the Murrays' Mills complex of former cotton mills, dating from 1797. It is within the council area of Manchester.
