Amersham on the Hill developed from the end of the 19th century around Amersham underground station (1892), to the north of Amersham Old Town. Amersham-on-the-Hill has some fine Arts & Crafts buildings, mainly by architect John Harold Kennard, such as The Avenue and the landmark, Oakfield Corner. The area is within the council area of Buckinghamshire.
