Allensford, Durham / Northumberland
Allensford is a hamlet which lies either side of the River Derwent, partly in County Durham and partly in Northumberland. As the name suggest, the location has been a fording place of the Derwent since ancient times. A bridge has been in existence since at least the 17th century. Allensford Mill lies north of the river in Northumberland. Allensford House lies south of the river in County Durham. The hamlet is within the council areas of County Durham and Northumberland.
