Alderley Edge, Cheshire

Alderley Edge is a large village in Cheshire. The village was first recorded as 'Chorlegh' in the 13th century and remained Chorley until the arrival of the railway in 1842. To avoid confusion with Chorley in Lancashire, the station was named Alderley Edge after the famous red sandstone escarpment which rises above the village. The village eventually became known by this name. The village is well known for its affluence and expensive houses. The village is within the council area of Cheshire East.
