New Abbey is a village in Kirkcudbrightshire. The ruined Cistercian abbey Sweetheart Abbey was founded by Dervorguilla of Galloway in 1273 to commemorate the death of her husband John Balliol, King of Scots. The village is within the council area of Dumfries and Galloway.
