Abaty Ystrad Fflur, Cardiganshire

Abaty Ystrad Fflur (Strata Florida Abbey) is the ruins of a former Cistercian abbey near Pontrhydfendigaid, Cardiganshire. The Monastery was founded in 1164 by the Cambro-Norman Knight Robert FitzStephen. Strata Florida Abbey was dissolved in 1539. Most of the buildings were demolished, the refectory and dormitory being rebuilt as Tŷ Abaty. The church of St Mary, within the boundaries of the graveyard, may have been built with stone taken from the monastic site. The site is in the care of Cadw. It is within the council area of Ceredigion.
