Sheen, East, Surrey

East Sheen is a small suburban town in Surrey. The town of Richmond was formerly known as 'Sheen' and the hamlet of East Sheen to its east recorded from the 13th century. It grew from a village into a suburban town in the 19th century. It has long since been contiguous with Mortlake to its north. At the centre of the town is The Triangle, a traffic island with a war memorial and an old milestone dating from 1751. The main high street, Upper Richmond Road, is populated by many small boutique clothing shops and delicatessens. The town is within the council area of Richmond upon Thames.
